Established in 1979 in Ranipet (Tamil Nadu, India) SNAP is the largest processor of natural seaweed based products in India. We manufacture two major phycocolloids Alginates and Carrageenan.

Mr. Vinod G. Nehemiah
Founder Director
Mr. Vinod G. Nehemiah holds a Masters degree in Chemical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston, USA. He previously worked as a Research Scientist in a multinational Company and is a first generation entrepreneur. He is pioneer in the field of Alginates and seaweed processing and serves as a thought leader on several committees in this sector.
Mr. P. Thangamurugan
Executive Director
Mr. P. Thangamurugan holds a Masters degree in Science from University of Madras. An early employee at SNAP, he has more than 3 decades of experience in the field of Alginate & Carrageenan manufacturing. He has been a member of the FSSAI working group for harmonization/development of FSSAI standards. At SNAP he oversees all Factory Operations, Production and Regulatory affairs.
Ms. Kavita Nehemiah
Executive Director
Ms. Kavita Nehemiah holds an MBA from Cornell University, USA and a BA (Hons.) Economics from St Stephens College Delhi. She has previously worked in the Financial Services Industry, first with a Microfinance company and later co-founding a Financial Technology company. At SNAP she oversees Business Development, Sales, Marketing and Compliance.
Mr. V Prasath
Senior Manager
Mr. V. Prasath holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from University of Madras. He joined SNAP in 1991, starting his career as a production supervisor. At SNAP he now oversees Seaweed Procurement and operations at our Thirupullani site, Accounts, Quality Control and is the Management Representative for ISO.
Mr. S. Kamaraj
Marketing Manager
Mr. S. Kamaraj holds a Bachelors degree in Chemistry from University of Madras. He joined SNAP in 2002, starting his career as a production supervisor. In his initial years at SNAP he worked in factory operations including a stint as the Production Manager. He currently oversees Marketing and Sales for the Food and Biostimulant business, managing a team of sales associates all over India.

OUR JOURNEY
SNAP Natural and Alginate Products Private Limited was set up in September 1978 by two first-time entrepreneurs. What started with a project plan to manufacture Alginates for textile printing grew over the years to become the largest manufacturer of seaweed based products in India.
SNAP Natural and Alginate Products Pvt Ltd is set up
Land purchased from SIPCOT industrial estate, Ranipet
Production begins. The plant produces only textile-grade Sodium Alginate
Production of Sodium/Calcium Alginate for welding rod extrusion application commences
Plant upgraded to produce Sodium Alginate for Medicinal use
Plant produces Alginic Acid and low viscosity Sodium Alginate for the first time in India
Unit opens at Thiruppulani, for collection, procurement & post harvest processing of seaweed
Laboratory approved by Bureau of Indian Standards for Sodium Alginate as per IS:5191:1993 standards
Certified by Bureau Veritas as per ISO 9001:2000 : ISO14001:1996 as an Integrated Management System
SNAP became a zero discharge company
Agriculture Input products certified as ‘Organic Input’ as per NPOP standards by APEDA, Govt. of India
Manufacturing of CARRAGEENAN begins to cater to the Food Industry
Facility upgraded and re-certified by Bureau Veritas as per ISO 9001:2008 : ISO 14001:2004, Integrated Management System
Water consumption gradually reduced from 2000 litres/kg to 130 litres/kg of production
Obtains ‘Good Manufacturing Practices’ as per Food Codex from Bureau Veritas
Obtains Drug License under Drugs and Cosmetics Act to produce and supply Sodium Alginate and Alginic Acid IP, BP, USP-NF grades
Pharmaceutical Block certified for ‘Good Manufacturing Practices for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients’ as per ICH guidelines
Pharmaceutical Block certified for ‘Good Manufacturing Practices’ as per WHO norms
